IT Certifications and IT degrees

I recently read an article at Certificationsblog.Net they have mentioned a List of Top IT certifications for the year 2009

It is an important fact for most of the IT professionals and Students that IT certifications are getting more and more important everyday and it has been calculated in various surveys that candidates having IT certifications in addition to their university degrees, in specific area of work,are more likely to be payed as compared to those having just formal IT Certification Preparation degrees.

Although most of the time we hear about Microsoft, ACTS Certifications Preparation ,PMP or similar other certifications but in fact there are dozen of various IT certifications available, for a complete list you can visit: or just google about the list and you will be amazed at number of vendors available.

IT Certification Recommendations For Students:

If you are fresh university graduate and are looking for a solid IT career I will recommend not to just look at the vendors when you choose your certification track i.e. it is not a question that whether we should choose Microsoft Certifications or Cisco Smb Certification Preparation or Project Management ,because there are dozens of tracks available and you will completely lost if you will think in this way. The correct way to decide in my opinions is to look for your interest and then choose your certifications e.g. if you like designing and graphics then you should go for Adobe Certifications and If you have taste for programming Microsoft or Java certifications should be considered. Also Cisco is the known leader in Networking certifications and this should be your choice if you want to join Networking as a career.

I will recommend going to www.certificationstalk.com forum , it is a new forum but it has a very dedicated team of moderators and they can help you choose proper certification track if you post your question there. So my suggestion is to be patient and invest some time in research first.

IT Certification Recommendations For Working Professionals:

For working IT Professionals I will recommend that unless they are willing to switch there track or company they should look for the certifications that are related to their field and do not just run after the every hot certification they hear. Nowadays everybody knows that IT industry is in a very high boom and many people are rushing towards this hot industry but after having a versatile experience in different IT companies I have some warning notes for my readers:

• First, I shall insist that every field is not for everyone i.e. if IT industry is getting hot this doesn't mean that other business and career have become dead rather there is an opportunity everywhere, it is how perform in that field counts. If you are moving towards IT as a career due to suggestions from your friends or parents I will recommend not to take any step blindly. Follow your natural talent you and your teachers can be a great help in this respect. IT is important to become a good writer, physicist, technician or teacher than a bad or midiocre IT professional !

• I have seen many people with IT degrees but they lack the natural talent for this field and they might have come in IT unwillingly or without career planning, so consult someone before making a move.

There has been much debate on the validity and value about the avaialble IT certfications form various vendors like Microsoft,Cissco,Comptia etc. Some people say that after the various shortcuts avaiable like braindumps etc. these certifications have lost their worth and credibilty. However I strongly disagree !

The fact is that shortcuts are avaiable in almost every education track and this has nothing to do with the credibility and value of course Hp Asp Certification Preparation itself. People are creditied with the knwoledge and experience they have and not just by their degrees and certifications. But these degrees and certifications help us classify and distinguish sutable candidates. Without the subject specific certifications how anyone can distinguish a webdeveloper and a desktop developer even if both of them have a BS or MS degree. The certifications tell us what are the specific skills this person claims to have and then it becomes easy for any employer to sort out the right potential.

So the point that I have tried to emphasize here is that whether these certifications provide us additoinal and specific knowledge or not but they do effect our professional resume and help us achieve better jobs.
